It clearly doesn't provide EVERYTHING there is to know about Snow Leopard Server, but it does build a solid foundation and show you where to go from there if you are actually interested in knowing more.Įven with Lion Server being out, I would still recommend this book to someone wanting to be a Mac OS X Server Admin, as even if you were to use Lion Server, this book will give you a well rounded education on how things were before the major changes, which I'd imagine, would make you only that much better at dealing with and understanding what's in Lion Server to begin with.Īgain, it's not the most entertaining Mac OS X read, but there are certainly dryer IT reads out there and the two authors really do a great job of making the material at hand digestible. I'm not sure how much of that can be blamed on the book rather than on the exams and on the material covered in the book.
Similarly, I found that while the concepts taught in this book ARE tested on in the Mac OS X Server Essentials 10.6 exam, this book really only does so much to prepare one for that exam.certainly nowhere near as much as the Support Essentials books do for the corresponding Support Essentials exams. Going from not knowing much about servers to this, I was able to learn a lot, but it was still somewhat of a bumpy ride. It's easy to understand and it is well laid out.
